William Bennett, ancestor of a family of that name, came originally from Maryland to Anson County, N. C. where he was living during the Revolution. He was a Baptist preacher, yet spent some time with the patriot army. He seems to have made himself especially obnoxious to the torries, who fired a volley into his dwelling in Anson.
